Public Transport Backbone
The backbone was developed in August 2008 by GAM (upper management, transport team, and Master Plan team) as well as public transport experts and other local stakeholders
The backbone includes rail-based transit corridors and bus rapid transit (BRT) corridors
Given the need for major civil works and road closures and taking into account the time needed to complete major urban development projects, it was decided that the backbone would be implemented in two phases

Baseline Conditions: Traffic Congestion
The cost of delay due to traffic congestion in Amman is estimated to be JD 567,000,000 (2006).
This is equivalent to about JD 200 per person per year.
This does not include other costs of traffic congestion, such as environmental impacts, sprawl, and traffic accidents.
