One of Greater Amman Municipality regions, Al Abdali is so named after the Founding King Abdullah I. It was once designated as the Fourth region but was later changed to the Ninth. Al Abdali is considered the center of the capital with an area covering 15km square and a population of 120,000

Al Abdali includes four residential districts: Shmeisani, Sports City district, Jabal Al Hussein, and Jabal Lweibdeh. The last two are among the oldest districts in the capital

Many vital public institutions are located in this region: nearly one third of government ministries and agencies and all security and military commands. Other important buildings in Al Abdali are the Royal Cultural Center where international, regional and local conferences are held, Al Hussein Sports City, the Parliament building, the Palace of Justice (which houses various courts), headquarters of the Association of Trade Unions, King Abdullah I Mosque, and many embassies and diplomatic missions. There are also many hotels, companies, banks, and commercial complexes, in addition to Al Abdali Complex, which is the main take off point for commuters and travelers to neighboring countries.
