Brief Introduction

Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) is the largest of the Kingdom’s municipalities. It is governed by a set of laws and regulations in addition to the Municipalities Law. Due to its expansive area, the City has been divided into twenty Regions, each works on improving and developing services provided within its designated administrative and geographical boundaries.

Al Nusr, which is an old district in the eastern part of Amman is the fourth such Region of GAM. It covers 196.5 km square and now has a population estimated at 225,000. The Region includes five main neighborhoods: Al Nusr, Prince Hassan, Rabwa, Alia, and Al Manara, in addition to Saleheyeh and Al Bayda village.

The Region has several features of interest such as the railway that runs through its neighborhoods and the old Ten Bridges as well as Al Hussein National Park.

During the seventies, the Region saw an active building and commercial drive, which demanded greater efforts, both qualitatively and quantitatively to improve the environmental and health situation in the city; from sanitation works to cultural events, as well as issuance of building and vocational licenses, health supervision, regulating traffic, constructing roads tunnels and bridges and installing traffic lights.

The Region has made great strides in providing services to the local community, evidence the GAM Prize that it was lately awarded and ISO 9001/2000 certification.
