The City of Amman derives its entitlement to conclude agreements with other cities from provisions provided for by Jordan Municipalities Law No. 29 of 1955, amendments thereto and bylaws issuing therefrom. The Law defined GAM as a financially independent private corporation and as a municipality in all aspects, therefore cooperation with other cities stems from the obligations undertaken by the Municipality towards citizens, i.e. providing services. Some of the areas in which the Municipality cooperates with other cities are:

Urban planning
|

Protecting the environment against pollution

Training

Developing cultural, artistic and youth activities

Those related to planting trees and ‘greenification’ in cities, public parks and gardens

|
Those related to public libraries and accompanying activities
|
|
|
|
Getting rid of waste and the means by which to treat it, as well as sanitation issues

|
Food safety and public health
|
|
|
|
Road transport and traffic lights
|
|
|
|
Legislation dealing with local administration
|
|
|
|
Sharing of Information and publications
|
|
|
|
Coordination at Arab and international conferences, symposia and meetings.

|
Exchange of visits and delegates
|
|
|
|
In the area of Geographic Information System and information technology
|
|
|
|
Any other item to which the parties agree that fall within the area of local administration and municipalities responsibilities.
