Within the framework of enhancing the role of Arab Towns Organization before international organizations, GAM took the initiative to accept the invitation to join COPPEM permanent executive office. At a meeting that was convened in Palermo, Italy in 2000, the following 4 permanent working committees were formed: |

At the second meeting, held also in Palermo, from 5 to 7/7/2001, Amman, represented by its Mayor, was selected to preside over CTTEC.
Among COPPEM objectives:

Exchange of expertise and research in areas related to municipalities and development of cities

Learning from the experiences of European cities in areas of municipal services and their applications

|
|
|
Enhancing cooperation among officials responsible for cities in Arab and European countries
|

Creating mechanisms for cooperation through conclusion of sister cities agreements with European cities.
