55kilometers west of Amman lies the
lowest point below sea level on Earth. It is the Dead Sea, which has
survived many an historical era to become of late the place that
attracts the most tourists; those who are looking for warmth in the
winter, and beautiful scenery, and wish to marvel at the odd nature
of the Sea, as manifested by its lack of any living organisms due to
the unusual density of its water.. However, in its salty waters
there are reputed treatments for many ailments, and for thousands of
years, people sought the Sea for cures. Its salts constitute the raw
material for the production of Potash as well as salts used for
medicinal and cosmetic purposes, which are sold throughout the
world.

After a run through
hills and valleys, a visitor arrives at the Sea on whose waters even
those who can’t swim can still float. On its shores, one can have
the best of times: at its cafes and resorts. Those who choose to
charge the waters whose density equals four times that of regular
seawater, can do so; float unaided on their backs and while doing so
may even read the newspaper or a book. There are several major
hotels, restaurants and spas in the area. A visitor can get to the
Dead Sea by a private car or ride in a comfortable tourist bus.
